Bruins win 4-1 against Sabers

Charlie Coyle scored twice, Brad Marchand had two assists and the Boston Bruins ended a four-game losing streak by defeating the Buffalo Sabers 4-1 on Wednesday.

Mason Lohrei and Morgan Geekie also scored for the Bruins, who were 0-2-2 in their previous four meetings. Jeremy Swayman blocked 25 shots.

It was the first time since December 12, 2019 that the Massachusetts team lost four games in a row.

Erik Johnson responded for the Sabres. Quebecer Devon Levi made 21 saves.

The special teams played an important role in this meeting. The Bruins scored on their first three power plays, while the Sabers were shut out on six occasions.

Tage Thompson, the Sabres’ number 1 center, missed the game for personal reasons.

Rangers win at home

K’Andre Miller

K’Andre Miller scored two goals and added an assist to lead the New York Rangers to a 5-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

Igor Shesterkin made 25 saves for the Rangers, who won their second straight game and five of their last six. The goalkeeper notably stood out with a spectacular save by sliding at the expense of Ivan Miroshnichenko in the third period.

Quebecer Alexis Lafrenière also scored, registering his 10e goal of the season. Artemi Panarin and Braden Schneider were the other scorers, and Mika Zibanejad had two assists in his 800e game in the NHL.

Anthony Mantha was the only Capitals player to find the back of the net. He was the author of the first goal of the match, extending his streak to four games with one point.

Darcy Kuemper blocked 26 shots in front of the visitors’ cage.

Senators defeat Maple Leafs 4-2

Drake Batherson scored two goals to help the Senators come from behind and defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Wednesday.

Batherson notably scored his second of the game 3:44 into the third period to give the Senators the lead.

Parker Kelly and Brady Tkachuk – the latter in an empty net – also threaded the needle for the Senators, who signed a second victory in three duels against the Maple Leafs this season.

Joonas Korpisalo stopped 34 pucks in the victory.

The Senators improved to 2-2-0 under interim head coach Jacques Martin, who took over when the team fired DJ Smith on December 18.

Matthew Knies and Tyler Bertuzzi were the game’s first two scorers within a 23-second span in the first period. The Maple Leafs, who boast a 5-3-3 record this month. Martin Jones made 27 saves.

The Panthers win 3-2 against the Lightning

Sam Reinhart scored twice, Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves and the Florida Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Wednesday.

Paul Maurice became the third head coach after Scotty Bowman (2,141) and Barry Trotz (1,812) to coach 1,800 games in the NHL. The Panthers driver is sixth in wins with 837.

Aaron Ekblad also flashed the red light for the Panthers. It was his first goal of the campaign. Aleksander Barkov added three assists to his record.

Nikita Kucherov scored his 300e career goal in defeat. The National Hockey League’s leading scorer missed a few shifts in the first period after being hit in the face by a stick.

Michael Eyssimont was the other scorer for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

The Panthers were the Eastern Conference representatives in the Stanley Cup Final earlier this year. The Lightning had reached it at the end of the three previous seasons.

Former Montreal Canadiens Mikhail Sergachev participated in the Lightning’s morning training session, but he missed a third consecutive game after receiving a shot on his left foot.

The Devils have the upper hand over the Blue Jackets 4-3

Timo Meier scored in overtime on a breakaway to give the New Jersey Devils a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

The Devils came from behind to win. Luke Hughes tied the game with 25 seconds left in the third to force an overtime period.

While Vitek Vanecek was on the bench thanks to a sixth skater, Hughes beat goaltender Elvis Merzlikins with a wrist shot. Saturday in front of their fans, the Devils also erased a deficit to defeat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2.

Yegor Chinakhov gave the Blue Jackets a 3-2 lead with 2:26 left in the third period. The Ohio team botched a 17e advance, a high in the National Hockey League this season.

Ondrej Palat and Dawson Mercer were the other scorers for the Devils. Vanecek blocked 26 pucks.

Justin Danforth and Jake Bean also moved the ropes in the other clan. Merzlikins was tested 35 times.
