On the island of Kihnu, a matriarchal society

It’s a small Estonian island in the Baltic Sea, where women decide. Kihnu, 16 square kilometers, 300 inhabitants, has long made its living from fishing. The men went to sea, while the women stayed and became, in fact, the patronesses of the island, the guardians of the community. Fishing is no longer what it used to be, but the habits persist and the tradition remains.
