Vahagn Khachaturian spoke in the special program dedicated to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Everyone was surprised by how it happened: the war only lasted one day”. From Yerevan, the Armenian president spoke to France 2 on Thursday, October 5, about the situation in his country, after the exodus of thousands of people fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh, due to the lightning offensive led by the Azerbaijan.

Vahagn Khachaturian explained that these Armenians “had to choose between staying there, fighting or moving towards the Republic of Armenia”. By choosing the third option, these displaced people “were able to save hundreds of thousands of” people, said the Armenian president. Once arrived there, the UN mission could only “see the result”, further affirms, to France Télévisions, Vahagn Khachatourian. Without a demolished building and a visible corpse, “this could have been presented as a voluntary departure of the populations but in reality, (..) it was not voluntary: it was indeed a forced exodus”insisted the Armenian president.

Asked about the delivery of weapons for which France “gave consent”Tuesday, the Armenian president said he had “need for a new military partner”. Vahagn Khachaturian justified the need “to increase its defense capabilities” because “Azerbaijan has repeatedly declared, openly, that even our capital Yerevan is not part of the Republic of Armenia but belongs to” Baku. “Our final goal is to live in peace with our neighbor, with Azerbaijan” concluded the Armenian president on France 2.
