“We have nothing more to hide”, naturists share their way of life

This Sunday, July 3, was World Naturism Day. For the occasion, we are talking to you about this hobby which is attracting more and more followers.

It is not always easy to show yourself in your simplest form… But naturism, beyond the fact of getting naked, is also a state of mind.

No traces of tan on the horizon. Here, at the CGO (Western Gymnastics Club) in Couëron, the naturist association in the west of Nantes, around twenty of them meet, naked, for an aperitif.

We have nothing more to hide”

“We have nothing more to hide, summarizes Pierre, who takes care of the barbecue. It’s been 30 years since he dropped the shorts, and he sees only advantages. “When you are naked, there is no longer any a priori between those who have a lot of money and those who do not have any, he continues. We left everything, left everything in the parking lot or in the locker room.”

Denis also left everything in the locker room, apart from his cap. He loves coming here to what he calls his little piece of paradise. “Naturism is also very much linked to ecology, he explains. We are very close to nature.”

A practice open to all

Here, young people, old people, children, people with reduced mobility. Everyone is welcome, no obligation to show everything from day one. This is what attracted France-Sylvie, vice-president of another naturist association, based in Corsept, in Loire-Atlantique. “People don’t have to have complexes, she confides. When you see people who practice naturism, you can’t say that we are all top models… Naturism is above all a state of mind. No one is judging themselves.”

The Western Gymnastics Club has 120 members. In Loire-Atlantique, there are four naturist associations recognized by the federation : that of Couëron, but also those of Corsept, Piriac-sur-Mer and La Limouzinière. In Vendée, these are mainly beaches where you can practice naturism, especially at Sauveterre beach in Olonne-sur-Mer or Pointe d’Arçay beach in La Faute-sur-Mer.
