“We experienced the unity of a city, and the solidarity of an entire department,” testifies Gil Avérous, the mayor of Châteauroux (Indre) on franceinfo Saturday May 4, after the white march in tribute to Matisse, a 15-year-old teenager killed with several stab wounds by a young person of the same age, on April 27. Among the 8,000 people who made up the silent procession, many came from different towns in Indre. The mayor talks about a moment “very strong, very moving and contemplative”.
There will be “a before and an after” this drama, for Gil Avérous. “We always have the impression that it’s happening elsewhere, that a medium-sized town like Châteauroux is safe from an event like this, it brought us back to the harsh reality”deplores the mayor. During the white march, several citizens expressed their fear and their feeling of insecurity. The elected official explains that he is aware “the need to discuss, to meet”, to talk about this drama and the violence. He rocks “do everything possible to prevent this from happening again.”
The young man’s funeral will take place on Tuesday May 7, not in a church, but at the Gaston-Petit stadium, the Châteauroux football stadium, in tribute to Matisse’s passion for this sport.
