French singer Bernard Lavilliers revisits his greatest pieces with a symphony orchestra. A major challenge for those who compose music without knowing how to read it.

At 77, singer-songwriter Bernard Lavilliers is back in the studio to revisit his hits with a symphony orchestra. The French singer who never learned music theory said to himself “scared to death“faced with this challenge.”I, who don’t know how to read music, (…) all these musicians come from the conservatory obviously, he indicates. We can’t afford to make a mistake, it’s very impressive.“But the singer can always count on his self-taught talents and his voice which remains intact over the years.

His travels as inspiration

The one who tried his hand at salsa, rock and reggae also published a book inspired by travel memories. “If I go to a country, it’s because music interests me“, he assures. In his pieces we find many influences from Brazil to Jamaica.
