- Russia stepped up its attacks in western Ukraine on Sunday, bombing a military base near the border with Poland. The attack reportedly left 35 dead and 134 injured, according to Ukrainian authorities.
- More than 2,100 residents of Mariupol, a besieged port city in southeastern Ukraine, have been killed since the start of the Russian offensive, the city hall said on Sunday. The Russian military is accused of deliberately targeting residential buildings and densely populated areas.
- Several attempts to deliver humanitarian aid to Mariupol have failed: a new convoy accompanied by Orthodox priests with 100 tons of water, food and medicine turned around on Sunday afternoon.
- An American journalist was killed and another was wounded by bullets on Sunday in Irpine, a northwestern suburb of Kyiv, the scene of heavy fighting for several days.
- Russian troops are increasingly surrounding Kyiv: present in the suburbs, they are seeking to eliminate the defenses to the west and north of the capital, after having destroyed the nearby airport of Vassylkiv on Saturday, according to the Ukrainians.
- In the south, at least 11 people were killed in Russian strikes on the port city of Mykolaiv, near Odessa, according to the Ukrainians.
- In the past 24 hours, some 100,000 people have joined the ranks of refugees, bringing the number to 2,698,280, according to a tally released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Sunday.
- A session of negotiations by videoconference between Russia and Ukraine will be held on Monday, confirmed an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky. A Russian negotiator spoke on Sunday of “significant progress”, Kyiv indicating for his part that Moscow had stopped issuing “ultimatums” and was beginning to “listen carefully to proposals”.
