Convoy from the north, gains in the south
Russian tanks arrived at the northeastern edge of Kyiv on Thursday, having already made it north and west. Satellite images show armored units have been deployed in nearby forests and towns, according to The Associated Press. In the south of the country, Russian forces have made significant gains recently, including the encirclement of the city of Mariupol, a strategic port on the Sea of Azov.
Spotlight on Kyiv
The bombardments continued around Kyiv on Thursday, in particular on the deserted town of Velyka Dymerka, about fifty kilometers from the capital. In two weeks, half the population of the Kyiv agglomeration fled, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
