Faced with the Russian military, Ukrainian civilians fled the country. More than 50,000 people left it in two days according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Some sometimes only took a simple suitcase. Marika Sipos, a Ukrainian refugee, left her village before the Russians arrived. Crossing the border with Hungary, she left everything behind. “I’m exhausted, we haven’t slept all night. We fell asleep crying, because we didn’t know how we were going to wake up in the morning”, testifies Marika Sipos. Hungary is not the only destination for those fleeing the bombs. In Romania, the relief services have started setting up tents to accommodate the refugees.

Refugees who also throng to the Polish border, but also to Moldova. In two days, tens of thousands of Ukrainians fled their country. “We observed in two days, more than 50,000 people who crossed the borders”, reports Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The latter confirms that the majority of Ukrainians are fleeing to Poland and Moldova.
