In Ukraine, as fighting rages in the Donbass, the Russian army retreated to the northern cities. It’s time for reconstruction, as Borodyankaone of the cities most destroyed by this conflict.

Buildings ravaged, ct is one example among many of the scale of the destruction in Borodyanka and the huge construction site ahead. Before the war, these two buildings were one. But a Russian bombardment, at the beginning of March, destroyed the central part, nothing remains of it. Near 40% of buildings are affected. The reconstruction seems insurmountable, the city is however convinced that it is possible. In another district, craftsmen are in charge of launching what is the first stage: the demolition of excessively damaged dwellings.

“We are condemning the gas pipes so that the other services can intervene, raze the buildings and rebuild new ones”explains a craftsman. Once the search for the victims is complete, it will take months, probably years, to bring life back here. When this is still possible, the inhabitants hasten to repair the furniture, the entrance doors broken by the Russians. The rebuilding of Borodyanka will also depend on the financial means that will be granted to it.
