War in Ukraine: Ottawa will send 200 armored vehicles to Ukraine

National Defense Minister Anita Anand confirmed on Wednesday that the Government of Canada will provide 200 armored vehicles to the Ukrainian army.

Minister Anand announced the contribution during a visit to Kyiv, where she met with her Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov.

The vehicles are purchased from Roshel, a company based in Mississauga, Ontario, at a cost of $90 million.

Canada had already sent eight of the company’s Senator armored personnel carriers to Ukraine last year in response to the invading Russian army.

The other 200 armored vehicles are Canada’s latest contribution, after Minister Anand announced last week that Ottawa would supply an American-made air defense system to Ukraine at a cost of $406 million.

The federal government says Canada has provided approximately $5 billion in military, financial and humanitarian aid since Russian forces entered Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

In addition, hundreds of Canadian soldiers are training Ukrainian forces in Britain and Poland.
