A Canadian volunteer suffered minor injuries when Russian missiles last weekend pounded a military training base in western Ukraine that previously served as a hub for Ukraine-NATO cooperation .

The attack killed 35 people and injured 134 others, Ukrainian officials said. The base is located about twenty kilometers from the borders of Poland.
According to Chris Ecklund, a philanthropist with Fight for Ukraine, the injured Canadian was struck by fragments of metal and glass. He also possibly suffered a mild concussion and hearing loss.
The Hamilton, Ontario-based organization prepared for the injured volunteer’s return to Canada. Nothing was said about his age, identity or where he lived in Canada.
Chris Ecklund says the attack on the military base was extremely violent, and the injured Canadian was lucky to make it out alive. He hopes he won’t be traumatized by his experience.
