(Quebec) The Minister responsible for Social Services, Lionel Carmant, admitted that the dashboard listing data on the health system contained errors regarding waiting times in psychiatry.
“We want to correct the situation,” assured the minister in a press scrum at the National Assembly on Thursday.
A note indicating that “psychiatry data is being verified” is present on the dashboard.
The duty reported Thursday morning that several data present in the dashboard were “implausible” concerning the psychiatric waiting list.
Minister Carmant explained that the way of counting mental health patients is not uniform in the network. “It must be calculated the same way everywhere,” he said.
“We are making big changes in the way we evaluate mental health patients,” adds Mr. Carmant.
The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, wanted to put the situation into perspective. “If we compare to the fact that we had nothing two years ago, it’s quite an improvement. […] Errors in data happen, but we must not discredit the entire information system we have, because a piece of data is not valid,” said Mr. Dubé.
