(Houston) What occult forces are at work at the Dallas Zoo? The Menagerie has been the target of mysterious torts in recent days, the latest being the suspicious death of a beloved vulture, and Texas police are on the case.
“Everyone is considered a potential suspect, whether internal or external (at the zoo), all leads are studied,” warned Gregg Hudson, the zoo’s president, in a press conference Monday.
The loss of “Pin”, the name of this Nubian vulture at least 35 years old, is “heartbreaking not only for the family of our zoo, but also for all the efforts made to preserve this species”, tweeted the establishment on Tuesday.
A bounty of $10,000 is now promised for any information that can help investigators.
“Pin” was found this weekend with an “atypical injury” which was fatal to him. “This death does not appear to have a natural cause,” zoo officials concluded, according to a statement.
On January 13, a rare clouded leopard escaped from the menagerie through an intentionally cut breach in its enclosure. The feline named Nova had been recovered after a vast mobilization, involving in particular drones with infrared vision of the police.
Later, zoo workers discovered a similar breach in the cage of langurs, a species of Asian monkey.
In addition to fueling concern, this succession of events prompted the zoo to call in the police and double the number of its guards and night workers. The 43-hectare site, which already had more than 100 cameras, has added video surveillance devices.
Because the Nubian vulture is an endangered species, the matter was deemed serious enough to warrant the intervention of federal agents who joined the investigation.
