The inability of sport utility vehicle (SUV) manufacturers to highlight in their advertisements the utilitarian nature of their vehicles (yet real, but for a very small segment of the population) leads them to highlight their undeniable “sporty” characteristics. “, such as their ability to carry a large log along winding paths, to destroy their suspension on piles of stones placed on a steep slope, to raise mud and dust while traveling at high speed on bumpy dirt roads or in streams, to take questionable shortcuts in fragile environments and to climb mountains to their summits covered in eternal snow.
Used in the manner suggested by SUV manufacturers, these behemoths, whether powered by gasoline or electricity, are a disaster.
I don’t really know what kind of athletes these advertising messages inspire, but, in the absence of self-regulation, which is visibly non-existent in this unbridled wild leisure industry, our governments would have an interest in imitating certain European countries and banning these advertisements which encourage destruction of natural environments, the production of greenhouse gases and the waste of critical resources.
