Élections Québec will experiment with Internet voting in the next municipal elections in certain cities in Quebec, an innovative project aimed at encouraging participation in the vote.
I have no doubt about the precautions taken to assure candidates that they can rely on the security of the IT process. However, one question remains.
How can Élections Québec assure us of the secret nature of the vote when everyone does it at home or elsewhere from their computer or cell phone?
For centuries, voters have valued the confidentiality of their vote. There, anyone can sit next to the voter and watch them vote, or even pay them to convince them to check the right box.
How naive to believe in the value of such a vote!
This is how democracies become devalued.
