Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris to discuss kyiv’s ‘urgent needs’ ‘military and humanitarian’

After a visit to Italy and Germany, the Ukrainian president made a detour to France on Sunday evening.

TThree months after a first visit, Volodymyr Zelensky is back in France. The Ukrainian president landed at Villacoublay air base (Yvelines) at 8:50 p.m. Welcomed on the tarmac by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, he then took thein the direction of the Elysée where Emmanuel Macron was waiting for him.

The two leaders dined together to discuss the “urgent military and humanitarian needs of Ukraine”, specifies the Elysée. During this dinner, Emmanuel Macron also reaffirmed “the unwavering support of France and Europe to restore Ukraine to its legitimate rights and defend its fundamental interests”, said the Elysée.


A second visit not announced in advance

“With each visit to Paris, Ukraine’s defensive and offensive capabilities are increasing. The link with Europe is strengthening and the pressure on Russia is increasing. I will meet my friend Emmanuel [Macron] to discuss the most important points of bilateral relations”, reacted Volodymyr Zelensky on his Telegram account.

This is the second visit by the Ukrainian head of state to the French capital since the start of the Russian offensive. Emmanuel Macron had already received it on February 8 at the Elysee Palace, alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The stage in Paris had not been announced in advance. On a mini-European tour, the Ukrainian president was in Germany on Sunday before, and in Rome and the Vatican on Saturday.
