11:24 p.m. : For a week now, the race for the Palme d’Or has been in full swing. What should we remember from this Wednesday, May 24 in Cannes? Italian director Nanni Moretti returns to competition with Towards a bright future, just like the Franco-Vietnamese Tran Anh Hung, who presented The Passion of Dodin Bouffant, an adaptation of the eponymous comic strip by Mathieu Burniat, with Juliette Binoche. Virginie Efira and Melvil Pouvaud were also on the red carpet for the thriller Love and forests, by Valérie Donzelli, presented out of competition. 8:38 p.m. : This morning, the Debussy room of the Palais du Festival de Cannes was packed. Festival-goers got up early to discover the only Iranian film selected this year. Directors Ali Asgari and Alireza Khatami presented Terrestrial Verses, a sketch film of 1h17, which depicts a dozen incongruous situations in the Iranian administration. 7:55 p.m. : Thirty-five years after the cartoon, The little Mermaid reappear in the cinema with real actors in the flesh. From the first images of Rob Marshall’s film, the viewer is immersed under the ocean and rediscovers the magic of the 1989 Disney work. The American director to whom we also owe Chicago And Mary Poppins Returns knew the challenge that awaited him. Three decades later, the release of The little Mermaid in no way appears to be a counter-current idea, believes our journalist, Cédric Cousseau.

6:30 p.m. : Louise Ekland managed to catch Tran Anh Hung, director of The Passion of Dodin Bouffanyou, presented this evening in the official selection. This is the adaptation of the cult novel by the Swiss Marcel Rouff, published in 1924, with, for main actors, Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel. The film tells the story of Eugénie, an outstanding cook, who worked for the famous gastronome Dodin for twenty years.
6:29 p.m. : Come on, like every night this week, we’re off to Cannes for the climb of the steps of the one that the whole world envies us: Virginie Efira, accompanied by Melvil Poupaud. Both are the main performers in Valérie Donzelli’s new film: Love and Forests. This thriller, the director’s sixth feature, is released in theaters today.

The film, adapted from the book by Swiss Marcel Rouff, explores the links between love and gastronomy through a couple. “I learned puff pastry, and I learned that butter is absolutely essential”jokes the actress, guest of the “13 hours” of France 2.
