The Printing Museum Workshop in Malesherbes in Loiret honors vinyl and especially its cover. A cult object from the 60s and 80s, it is revealed in the exhibition “Le temps des vinyles”, until June 21.

Replaced at the end of the 80s by the CD, vinyl had not in fact said its last word. This format arouses the enthusiasm of a public who considers it more authentic or as a collector’s item. A success that earned him an exhibition entirely devoted to his history, at the Atelier musée de l’impressionie de Malesherbes (Loiret).
Throughout the exhibition, the vinyl sleeves are revealed as significant objects. From the ultra-colorful covers of David Bowie, to the psychedelic and enigmatic visuals of pink floydThere is something for every taste. Visitors will be able to discover and rediscover the greatest artistic collaborations, such as this cover of a Bartók album signed by the painter Pierre Soulages. “The album cover is a very good commercial tool and working for great artists means ensuring that their works will be sold in large quantities”explains Adrian Saldanacultural mediator of the museum.
The cover also becomes a means of expressing one’s opinions. On the album cover On the Beach, Neil Young’s back facing the ocean: “He hates Nixon, he’s going to recover the newspaper which covers the beginnings of the Watergate affair”, to bring it to the fore, “and wink”adds Adrian Saldana.
In total, nearly 300 pockets are exhibited, i.e. as many stories to discover, until the 21 June.
