vintage thieves betrayed by a can of Ice Tea

Bottles of Château Lacoste-Borie, Lynch-Bages, Quinault-Lenclos or even Margaux… In total, these are 2886 bottles of Grands Crus which were stolen during the night of August 18, 2019 in a warehouse in Villenave-d’Ornon. The three thieves and the presumed receiver appear this Wednesday before the specialized interregional court of Bordeaux (Jirs).

The defendants call themselves “Maniac”, “Bastos” and “Casper”

That night, in the warehouse of a wine merchant in Villenave-d’Ornon, three hooded and gloved thieves had to use a pallet truck to take goods estimated at 80,000 euros. Six pallets of bottles loaded on board a stolen truck which will be found some time later in Saint-Jean-d’Illac. Some of the grands crus are found by the police during searches of the suspects’ homes.

Wiretapped, the three thieves call each other “maniac“, “Bastos” and “casper“. Aged 36, 39 and 40, they are, according to a source close to the case, well known to the police for acts of burglary.

Vacations in Punta Cana

During their investigations, the investigators were surprised at the lifestyle of the defendants. Between jet ski trips and vacations in Punta Canathis life “comfortable enough” seems in total inadequacy with their receipts of money made up of social minima.

The suspects dispute any theft but the DNA of some of them was found in the burglarized hangar, in particular on a can of Ice Tea or the pallet truck.

To explain the presence of his fingerprint in the warehouse, one of the defendants explained to the police that he had gone there to take a bathtub which a friend had given him.
