World Autism Awareness Day is Saturday, April 2. The 20 Hours presents on this occasion a home for autistic people, a place in which they are accompanied.

At Vincent’s house, in Mers-les-Bains (Somme), autistic people live in the heart of the city. “In the household where I was, well, it seems that I didn’t do much at all, especially according to my sister. I much prefer that life”says Vincent Médigue, smiling. “I have seen my brother too much in medical places, which does not allow him to be stimulated at all”says Hélène Médigue, sister of Vincent and founder of the association “Les Maisons de Vincent”.

“The goal today (…) is to provide tools to reduce their problems. Avoid medication and allow them to develop their potential”, explains Hélène Médigue. In Vincent’s house live six other autistic adults. The house is designed so that the residents become independent. “We are not like the others, but we have to make our handicap a strength”says Sébastien Olicki, a resident.
