Villeray | A young man in his twenties stabbed at the exit of the metro

An argument that would have “degenerated” between two young men on Monday afternoon forced a large police deployment at the corner of Berry and Jarry streets, in the Villeray sector. One of them was injured in the upper body by a knife, but there is no fear for his life.

It was shortly after 1 p.m. that the facts occurred in this case. According to a report by agent Raphaël Bergeron, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), an altercation started in the Jarry metro station between the two men, “and then moved to the ‘exterior’.

The suspect, a 28-year-old man, then allegedly stabbed the other man – also in his twenties – in the upper body, inflicting serious injuries. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his life is not in danger.

Before the arrival of the police, the suspect had fled. However, patrol officers were quickly able to locate him and arrest him. He was transported to a detention center, where he will meet with investigators. The victim will also be questioned when he leaves the hospital.

“At this time, the motive remains to be determined. We hope that the meetings with the suspect and the victim will allow us to understand a little better, ”said Raphaël Bergeron in this sense.

Note that the murder weapon, a knife, was also found at the scene. Investigators will also view video tapes from nearby surveillance cameras, and may collect versions of the facts from potential witnesses to the scene.

A security perimeter was erected at the corner of Berri and Jarry streets. It could remain in place for a good part of the day on Monday, in order to let the investigators work.
