On July 9, 2022, Moussa Sylla, cleaning agent for the National Assembly, suffered an accident. Found lifeless in the basement of the Palais Bourbon, he died three days later in hospital. His half-brother testifies.
“How many times are there workers who die here from accidents like this? Is it true, no one died before the people? We have to take care of ourselves.“ Born in 1970 in Mauritania, Moussa had joined his brother in France in 2003 and started odd jobs that allowed him to send money to his family. Without papers until 2013, the fiftieth had managed to find a position as a cleaning agent for the National Assembly.
“At 11:15 a.m. my phone rang. On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, in the morning, my brother passed away”. While he was the victim of an accident in the basement of the Palais Bourbon, Moussa died three days later as a result of his injuries. He would have lost control of one of his machines, a track still to be checked according to his half-brother. “We really want justice to be done to at least know the reasoning. Either it was the machine that had a problem or before he fell off the machine, it was he himself who had something wrong… At least we know, anyway.”
From now on, Moussa’s family honors his memory and fights so that this kind of accident never happens again. “We want his memory to remain. Not just for him, but valid for all foreign nationals living in France. So that this kind of thing does not happen again.”
