At 27, Cassandra feared having rectal surgery because of her endometriosis. But thanks to a revolutionary ultrasound treatment offered at the University Hospital of Lyon, she was able to avoid getting there. Here’s how it works.
“Endometriosis, to put it simply, is small blood vessels that spread all over the place and create nodules, instead of blood flowing naturally”.
Cassandra has endometriosis. To treat this gynecological disease, she uses a new ultrasound treatment, offered by the University Hospital of Lyon. These treatments allow the young woman to avoid an operation on the rectum, and reduce her pain.
“High-intensity focused ultrasound treatment is reserved exclusively for patients with rectal damage. This introduced probe allows us to devitalize the lesion through the wall of the rectum, without incision”explains Gil Dubernard, head of the obstetrics gynecology department.
“We will say that endometriosis, for the moment, basically, it is relieved, but it cannot be completely cured. I am cured of what complicated my life the most. Today I’m still with endometriosis, but I’m living better”says the young woman.
