During heat waves, Océane and Justine, nurses for the Samu social, roam the streets of the capital to do prevention work with people living on the street. Brut followed them.
“We tried to make a list of people who were most vulnerable, in connection with the day which is very hot today.” With patrols in Paris, these two young women inform the homeless on the steps to take in case of high heat.
In Paris, the Samu social organizes patrols to alert homeless people to the dangers during heat waves. Océane and Justine, two nurses, take part.
“In the collective imagination, we say to ourselves that it’s easier in summer, but in reality it isn’t, precisely because people are hypervigilant in periods of extreme cold”.
According to the young nurses, a period of heat wave can be as difficult to overcome as certain extreme colds. “In winter, there are many more places to stay warm. In very hot weather, people let their guard down.”
“These people find themselves in the sun, they don’t necessarily think about drinking water, they wear the same clothes as in winter… It’s also difficult for those who drink alcohol to tell the difference between drinking water for hydrate and another drink”
