“Today, what I hear are the sounds of Russian soldiers’ boots, but also NATO soldiers”, he added, while Washington insisted on the heavy sanctions that Russia would face in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, while Moscow launched military maneuvers on the doorstep of the country.

“We are sitting on a powder keg that is in Europe and it is Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden who have the matches in hand while France and the European Union, today, have no say. .”

According to him, “we delegated, we subcontracted to Joe Biden the task of discussing with Vladimir Putin on a threat of war which is happening at home, a two-hour flight from Paris”. “Can you imagine for a single second General De Gaulle living in such a situation and waiting with folded arms for the Russians and the Americans to finish talking?”, he continued, lamenting that “the Normandy group, which brings together Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France, is only meeting now, after having been absent from any discussion”.

“I ask that we stop the noise of the boots, on the Russian side as well as on the side of NATO, and that we get back around the table”, added Fabien Roussel. “Russia is asking for one thing: it is withdrawing its troops, stopping all tension, if Ukraine does not join NATO. So there is a proposal on the table”, he continued.

“We ask to leave NATO to regain our independence and we call for the creation of a Collective Security Treaty that puts us all around the table and that we talk rather than prepare our armies”, he concluded.
