“My film is the image of my life”. The former rapper Diam’s is at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 for the screening of her film “Salam”, directed with Houda Benyamina and Anne Ciss. For Brut, she responds to an exclusive interview with Augustin Trapenard.

Mélanie Georgiades, better known under the pseudonym “Diam’s”, is back with her documentary “Salam”, retracing her life and her struggles. The singer left the stage in 2010.

“It’s been 10 years, but I’m not cut off from the world contrary to what I sometimes hear. People have been writing to me for 10 years to tell me that they are not well. There are thousands , even millions. It is a reality.

At 41, the former singer is behind a documentary where she explains her journey after music and the difficult ordeals she went through: attempted suicide, hospitalization in psychiatry…

“I do not deny my past. It’s what makes me who I am now. That I am in front of you with this veil and that I agree to talk about my quest, my journey”.
