In the northern districts of Marseille, after the closure of the McDo, former employees took over the establishment, with a radically different goal: the sale of burgers must finance a distribution of food aid for the very modest families of the district.

In Sainte-Marthe, north of Marseille, after four years of closure, the only fast-food in the district is reopening its doors, with a new name: l’Après M. It is one of the most deprived areas in France, where 40% of households live on less than 700 euros per month.

Kamel Guémary worked for twenty years in fast food, within these same walls, before being made redundant when the franchise closed. From now on, he voluntarily endorses the costume of the boss of this somewhat crazy project: if this restaurant makes profits, they will be used to finance food aid for modest families in the neighborhood. The idea: to put fast food at the service of the redistribution of wealth. “Special Envoy” followed this challenge for a year.

A report by Elvire Berahya-Lazarus, Xavier Gaillard, Jean-Pierre Guillerez, Bertrand Bolzinger and Charles Mauly for CAT & Cie for CAT & Cie, broadcast In “Special Envoy” March 2, 2023.
