VIDEO. Is the Nutri-Score really a reliable tool?

The Nutri-Score is a logo available on certain prepackaged products. It tells consumers the nutritional value of the product, with letters ranging from A for best to E for worst. A dietician returns to its proper use.

“You can quickly end up with an ultra-processed product, rated A simply because the Nutri-score does not take into account the degree of processing and the glycemic index”explains Ysaline, dietician.

Since its introduction in 2017, the nutri-score has received a lot of criticism. “The Nutri-score is on 100 grams. That is to say that there are products where it will be representative and then there are products where, in the end, we base ourselves on 100 grams whereas consumption will be much more”.

The Nutri-score is a good indicator for comparing products from the same range of foods, says the dietician.

This notably encourages certain brands to review their recipes in order to obtain a better rating than their competitors.
