VIDEO. As teenagers, they experience their first Cannes Film Festival
“We have the impression of living outside of time.” Thanks to the Culture Pass, these eight teenagers, aged 18 to 20, are experiencing their first Cannes Film Festival. Screenings, meetings, climbing the steps… Brut followed them for a day.

“We have the impression of living outside of time.” Thanks to the Culture Pass, these eight teenagers, aged 18 to 20, are experiencing their first Cannes Film Festival. Screenings, meetings, climbing the steps… Brut followed them for a day.
It all started with a cover letter. “We put everything into it,” comments one of the participants. There are eight of them who were selected from 5,000 people across France to be among the lucky ones to be able to participate in the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. “For me, cinema is above all a moment of sharing with the family, we get together, we’re on the couch. And we share a moment together and we debate and we enjoy what. And so that’s what ‘we do it there with other people, other young people’, points out Eve.
The program was full, with appointments “from 8 a.m.” and screenings until the end of the day. The days were punctuated by meetings, discussions and invitations to special screenings, such as that of the film “The Ghosts”.
This first Cannes Film Festival was a real source of inspiration for these young cinema enthusiasts. The meeting with the film journalist Perrine Quennesson, in particular, marked Eve: “Just our meeting with Perrine Quennesson really made me want to do this because she is completely free in her profession, she is independent and her profession is extremely diverse. She is always doing this what she wants.”
Discovering the Festival was also an opportunity for these young people to discover the codes of the event. Oscar, a student, tells his anecdote about climbing the stairs: “At the beginning I arrived in Cannes, I had neither butterfly nor shoes, and so I almost arrived on the first climb in heels, because I said to myself, no choice, for the anecdote I might as well go for heels, as in the end, I didn’t really believe in it, so I went and bought shoes anyway.”
Although they didn’t know each other before, the group hit it off right away. “We met the day we all arrived at the station and straight away it was a great match,” rejoices Eve. Despite some minor stresses, such as stepping on a dress and being yelled at by a paparazzi, the experience was conclusive for these young cinema enthusiasts. An unforgettable first Cannes Festival which already makes them want to experience others.
