He won the legislative elections on Wednesday November 22, with 37 seats out of the 150 in the lower house of Parliament, a score which doubled compared to 2021. The Freedom Party is openly anti-immigration, against Islamization and wishes leave the European Union.
Nicknamed the Dutch Trump
“Our idea that the Dutch should come first resonated with many people”, believes Geert Wilders, leader of the PVV (Freedom Party). The leader of the far right must form a coalition, which the three other major parties refuse. Thursday, November 23, the unexpected announcement of the victory of the far right in the Netherlands made the front page of all the press and the inhabitants were expectant. Geert Wilders, nicknamed the Dutch Trump, has been prosecuted in the past for racist comments. He says he is a climate skeptic and opposed to the delivery of weapons to Ukraine.
