Saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell, co-founder of the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago, will be the figurehead of the 40e Victoriaville Current Music Festival (FIMAV) scheduled for May 13 to 19.
The program, unveiled Wednesday, also features the “guitar quartet” of the American Bill Orcutt, the jazz rap group Sélébeyone, the “ecstatic minimalism” of the Natural Information Society, the double bassist free Joëlle Léandre (in trio), the experimental pianist Sophie Agnel with the British saxophonist John Butcher, to name just a few.
This will be the first edition led by the new artistic director Scott Thomson, replacing founder Michel Levasseur, who retired from FIMAV last year.
The detailed timetable and complete ticketing will be available from March 13. The circuit of sound installations in public spaces and the visual art exhibition will be unveiled on April 10.
