Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance have agreed to debate each other on May 1.er October, setting up a showdown between potential vice presidents as early voting for the general election begins in some states.
CBS News posted on its X account Wednesday that the network had invited Vance and Walz to debate in New York, presenting four possible dates — Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Sept. 1er October and October 8 – as options.
Mr. Walz reposted the message from his own campaign account, adding this sentence: “See you on the 1ster October, JD.” The Harris-Walz campaign followed with its own message, saying Walz “looks forward to debating JD Vance — if he runs.”
Mr. Vance wrote on X that he would accept the invitation of the 1er October. He also challenged Mr. Walz to meet him on September 18.
Campaign officials for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz did not immediately respond to a message asking whether they would agree to the second debate.
CNN representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment about a possible Sept. 18 debate on their airwaves.
In recent weeks, Mr. Vance has focused largely on Mme Harris, with whom he was scheduled to debate before Joe Biden left the race. Mr. Vance also leveled criticism at Mr. Walz, including questioning the retired Army National Guardsman’s service record.
