(Vaudreuil-Dorion) A 90-year-old woman died of an assault allegedly inflicted on her on Wednesday in western Montérégie by an 82-year-old man, who was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The suspect should also appear later Thursday in the Criminal Chamber of the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse; the precise nature of the charge to be brought against him had not yet been determined at the start of the morning.
The Sûreté du Québec says it received a phone call around 1 p.m. asking it to go to a residence for the elderly on boulevard de la Gare, in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
When they arrived at the scene, the police found the lady dead in her apartment. She was identified by police as Annie Di Lauro.
A man with injuries was also on site. The start of the SQ investigation into him allowed the police to determine that he had been involved in the death of the nonagenarian.
Thursday morning, the police were not yet able to establish the exact circumstances of the tragedy. She also did not know if the victim knew her attacker.
The investigation was entrusted to the SQ’s crimes against the person squad.
