Vaccines supported by the State will be made available in Brittany

The area where vaccines for sheep and cattle against bluetongue serotype 3 are covered by the State is to be extended “to the whole of the Brittany region”announced the Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday, September 19.

“Vaccination will be made available free of charge to breeders throughout this region, which is in addition to the current vaccination zone (Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Ile-de-France, Grand Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Centre-Val de Loire, Pays de la Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Haute-Vienne, Creuse and Corrèze)”he details in a press release. The cost of this vaccination is nearly 30 million euros for the State, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Since its first detection in early August in northern France, serotype 3 bluetongue, a viral disease transmitted by a midge, has been spreading rapidly. A total of 1,929 outbreaks of the disease have been recorded, according to the latest report on September 12.
