Vaccination for 5 to 11 year olds | More than 163,000 appointments booked

(Quebec) More than 163,000 appointments have been booked since Tuesday in vaccination centers to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11, or about a quarter of the eligible clientele. The operation is to move to schools from next week.

The Legault government confirmed this new assessment on Thursday morning. The vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 – who number around 650,000 in Quebec – kicked off on Wednesday as many families converged on vaccination centers in the metropolis and the rest of Quebec.

The vaccination centers have been set up in a “fun” way to accommodate young clients. At the Palais des congrès in particular, users showed up early in the morning on Wednesday, in a good atmosphere. Pet therapy dogs, adapted rooms, animation or ephemeral tattoos: the CIUSSS du Center-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal had gone out of its way to welcome children.

The flat dog, trained for pet therapy, attracted the attention of children and the media at the Palais des congrès on Wednesday.

Images that delighted the Prime Minister. “I have seen extraordinary images of the vaccination. Our children are brave, they impress me and therefore I want to thank them these children who are vaccinated, also the parents, and all those who work in the vaccination clinics ”, underlined François Legault before going to the Blue Salon.

“I was seeing dinosaurs and all kinds of themes, it’s really encouraging to see what’s going on with childhood immunizations,” he added briefly.

After having mentioned a target of 80%, the Legault government is now careful to formulate an objective to be reached for the immunization coverage of children. The authorities say they do not want to put pressure on parents and children.
