US President Joe Biden postpones meetings due to dental issues

Joe Biden, in particular, postponed a meeting scheduled for Monday with the head of NATO. He will undergo an operation at the White House, but without general anesthesia.

Dental problems that force him to review his schedule. Joe Biden, 80, postponed until Tuesday, June 13, the meeting he was to have on Monday with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, due to a dental procedure. The US president, who has canceled all his commitments for the day, similarly postponed a reception with ambassadors originally scheduled for Monday evening, the US executive said.

The Democrat, after the onset of pain in a tooth, had already received dental root treatment on Sunday “without complications” by a team from Walter Reed Military Hospital, his personal physician said. The dental team at this hospital specializing in the care of US presidents is due to complete the procedure on Monday. The dental procedure is scheduled for the White House and there will be no general anesthesia, the President’s office said.

Joe Biden will therefore not have to, as provided for in the 25th amendment to the Constitution, temporarily transfer his powers to Vice-President Kamala Harris. He had done it for almost an hour and a half on November 19, 2021, while he was under general anesthesia for a colonoscopy. The vice-president, however, replaced him on Monday for an event with university athletes. According to his latest medical report published at the start of the year, Joe Biden, the oldest president ever elected in the United States, is in “good health”. However, the polls point out that the age of the Democratic president, candidate for a second term, is a major handicap with voters.
