A phenomenon is gaining momentum in France: urban rodeos. Young people most often on motocross bikes, on the back wheel, cross the city centers at high speed. An illegal and dangerous practice, punishable by one to five years in prison.

Life in balance, perched on a motorcycle launched at full speed, in the middle of passers-by and cars. Since the beautiful days, here is the “bike life”, the practice of tricks on the road, preferably in motocross. The more dangerous it is, the more noise it makes and the more it pleases. “I feel free”, said Mehdi, 28 years old. No matter the risks. “I don’t hurt anyone. If I’m a danger, it’s for myself“, he asserts.

Born in the United States in 1990, the phenomenon has invaded urban culture, and found itself in rap clips as well as in the cinema. And yet, wild rodeo is a crime, now punishable by one to five years in prison and up to 75,000 euros in fines. A crime that poisons the lives of the inhabitants. So the authorities are on the alert. At the Tourcoing supervision center (North), 350 cameras permanently track violations.
