(Montreal) Several regions of Quebec and the Maritimes were under weather warnings Monday morning for heavy rain of up to 80 millimeters, as well as strong winds.
In Quebec, most regions should expect to receive significant amounts of rain over the next few hours, according to Environment Canada.
Depending on the area, precipitation can range from 50 to 80 millimeters or 30 to 50 millimeters by Monday evening or Tuesday morning.
In the Quebec region, the quantities are expected to be even greater. Environment Canada is forecasting a total of 70 to 100 millimeters of rain by Tuesday morning. Up to 140 millimeters of precipitation could even fall in the Charlevoix mountains.
The federal agency warns that flooding is possible in low-lying areas, as well as accumulation of water on roads due to torrential rains.
Certain areas in the east of the province, such as Matane and Natashquan, were also covered by a wind warning. Gusts of 90 km/h are expected Monday evening or overnight.
In the Maritimes, several regions of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia could also experience episodes of gusts of 90 to 110 km/h by Tuesday.
Rainfall is expected to be 30 to 50 millimeters, but close to 80 to 100 millimeters in places in areas where the rain will be heaviest, says Environment Canada.
