Climate: up to 30°C in Spain in the middle of January – (France 2)
Spain is more than ever at the heart of climate change, with drought and worrying temperatures in the middle of winter. On January 25, 30.7°C was measured in Gavarda.
In some cities in Spain, temperatures are summery on Friday January 26. “We are very surprised. It’s around thirty degrees, we have to wear short sleeves”, confides a man. Several records were broken in the south of the country, including 30.7°C in Gavarda on January 25.
Temperatures due to human activities
Rain is also rare. For three years, Barcelona has been experiencing drought. Prevention messages are displayed in the city, on the verge of declaring a state of emergency.
In a neighboring town, the tap water is muddy. The water table is too low. Residents are supplied by tanker truck. Reservoir levels are very low, and there is little hope for snowmelt: the Pyrenees are lacking, both on the Spanish and French sides. Several resorts had to close their slopes. These temperatures are due to human activities.
