The rich programming of its 21and edition was developed by the director of the Never Lu, Marcelle Dubois, with her new “artistic cell” composed of Olivier Arteau, Alexandre Castonguay and Tamara Nguyen.

The opening night, May 5, offers a concept of improvised writing “under the constraints of the public”, while four playwrights (Gabrielle Chapdelaine, Mario Laframboise, Catherine Léger and Mireille Tawfik) will be on stage with their pens to write a work before our eyes. “The only thing that the authors know when they arrive on stage is the end of the story towards which they and they will have to strive collectively live”, we explain in the press release.

Among the texts that will also be proposed, let us mention Michelina single on stage by Michel-Maxime Legault, read by actress Marie-Thérèse Fortin, May 8 at 8 p.m.

Fiction Strikes Back

The closing show on May 14, titled Fiction Strikes Back, is a theatrical marathon that will take place from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a meal break. You will be able to hear seven 30-minute excerpts of works under construction defended by 12 performers. Reading is provided by Isabelle Leblanc, Pascale Renaud-Hébert and Jean-Simon Traversy.

In addition to a youth section, Never Lu will offer this year unpublished theatrical texts from the international Francophonie, in collaboration with Never Lu Paris and Never Lu Caribbean. There will also be three afternoon readings in parks in the Villeray district, on May 10, 11 and 12.

“With this 21and festival, we make up for the lack of reality, through the infinity of our imaginations. “Irreversible fiction” is the butterfly effect caused by sharing an author’s words. For 10 days, we will celebrate the necessary breaches that fiction makes in us,” writes Marcelle Dubois in the launch press release.

Founded in 2002, Never Lu offers playwrights a forum for the reading of their unpublished dramaturgical texts. Paying special attention to the writings of the new generation.

From May 5 to 14.
