Head coach Todd Woodcroft was fired by the University of Vermont (UVM) due to inappropriate text messages sent to a student.
This is what the institution announced on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old had been at the helm of the university’s men’s hockey team for three seasons. He is also the brother of Edmonton Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft.
“The University of Vermont Athletic Department has very high expectations for the conduct of our coaches and everyone involved in our department. After reviewing the findings of an investigation by UVM’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity which concluded this week, it is clear that Coach Woodcorft has not responded. to those expectations,” UVM athletic director Jeff Schulman said in a statement.
“The conduct that led to the investigation involved inappropriate text messages with a UVM student and these exceeded professional boundaries.”
Prior to joining UVM, Woodcroft worked for several National League teams, including as Assistant Head Coach, Director of Scouting, Scouting and Head of Video. He worked for the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets.
