After successful world championships, the French swimmer announced on Sunday in Stage 2 that he needed to take a break this summer.

A well deserved rest. Leon Marchand, elected best swimmer of the world championships from Budapest, announced Sunday June 26 in Stage 2 that he would not participate in the next European championships, which will take place in Rome from August 11 to 21. “I will train in France with Nicolas Castel [son co-entraîneur] for three to four weeks and I will take a break. I think I have achieved my objectives for this year, I have been working very hard for two years and I know that in my development I need to come back fresher.”explained the new star of French swimming.

In Hungary, Léon Marchand actually “does the job” in his own words, picking up the titles of the 200 meters medley and of the 400 meters medley (with the second best world performance of all time on the distance). He is only the third Habs to win two individual titles in the same edition of the world championships, after Laure (in 2007) and Florent Manaudou (in 2015). The Frenchman, who trains in the United States with Bob Bowman, has completed his collection of world medals by winning silver in the 200 meter butterfly, behind the Hungarian Kristóf Milak, titled at home.
