Ukrainian soldiers share their daily life with a crow

Since March, Ukrainian soldiers in the east of the country have been sharing their daily lives with a funny pet: a domestic crow named Mavic.

While the corvid brings some solace to the soldiers, he is a real troublemaker, stealing and hiding everything from phones to bullets.

“We found it around March, in this particular field, near our position,” said Major, a soldier. People say that crows are hunted by their parents at an early age, they adapt to the environment and grow up on their own. »

The name “Mavic” comes from a drone model, the Mavic 3, commonly used by the Ukrainian army for reconnaissance and surveillance.

“He steals our personal belongings, everything, and leaves them somewhere else. Sometimes it takes a while to find them. Phones, lighters, cigarettes, tea, coffee, just about anything lying on the table. Everything is demolished, everything that is there, everything that does not hold, is removed. He has a very particular character,” admits Major.

“Yesterday he flew towards the soldiers and grabbed a knife,” adds Ruslan. It’s interesting, he didn’t grab the blade, he grabbed the handle. They were very scared, because they didn’t know what was going to happen next, but a crow is a crow, he opened his mouth and the knife fell (note: from his mouth). »
