An entire country will have to be rebuilt. The Ukrainian government has estimated the economic losses caused by the war with Russia at more than 500 billion euros, Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Sviridenko announced on Facebook on Monday March 28.

The Minister calculated at “$564.9 billion” (515.8 billion euros at current price) “the direct impact of the destruction” since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, to which are added “the indirect effects of the fighting” on the economy linked in particular to the explosion of unemployment, the sharp drop in household consumption or even the drop in State revenue.

It is at the level of the infrastructures that the losses are the most important, indicated Yulia Sviridenko, with “nearly 8,000 kilometers of roads damaged or destroyed”as well as “dozens of stations, airports”, for an amount of 108.5 billion euros. Ten million square meters of housing and 200,000 cars were destroyed in more than a month, she added.

Yulia Sviridenko, also Deputy Prime Minister, also estimated the fall in GDP at 102 billion euros in 2022, i.e. an estimated contraction of more than 55% of the economy compared to 2021. The state budget Ukrainian risks him being amputated by 43.8 billion euros, according to the Minister of the Economy. That is a drop of almost 90% on the planned annual budget.
