A trial opens in Spain after 25 years of waiting

In Spain, the trial of the biggest mining pollution in Europe has begun. In 1998, millions of cubic meters of water had been contaminated, escaped from the reservoir of a mine whose dikes gave way. Thousands of fish died, and more than 4,000 hectares were contaminated in Andalusia. After 25 years of abortive proceedings, the Swedish company Boliden is finally on the dock. The Spanish authorities are demanding more than 90 million euros in damages, the amount they needed to clean up the site.
