(LONDON) World markets were at a loss on which foot to dance on Friday as Russian forces steadily approached the Ukrainian capital.

At the start of the session in Europe, London jumped 1.2%, Paris 0.6% and Frankfurt 0.2%.
In New York, before the opening of the markets, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the broader S&P 500 index lost about 1%.
In Asia, the Nikkei 225 soared 2% in Tokyo and the Kospi 1.1% in Seoul. The Shanghai Stock Exchange added 0.6% and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange lost the same percentage. The Australian stock market erased initial gains to end up just 0.1%.
On the New York Commodities Exchange, oil prices added 59 cents to US$93.40 a barrel.
