UBB loses arm wrestling against Racing 92

Union Bordeaux-Bègles took about ten minutes to enter their match at the Chaban-Delmas stadium against Racing 92. Time to concede three penalties, two of which were attempted and succeeded by Maxime Machenaud (6-0, 7th). Then the leader of the Top 14 set off. A first long sequence resulted in a penalty 15 meters slightly to the right missed by the young opener Matéo Garcia. The UBB insisted on its power. After a direct touch from the Ile-de-France, a first ball carried broke the defense of Racing which was at fault. UBB took the sideline for a new ball carried which allowed Ben Tameifuna to register the first try of the meeting. This time, Matéo Garcia passed the transformation (7-6, 19th).

UBB misses the break at the end of the first half

If Racing sporadically tried to react by trying to widen the game, the UBB then got their hands on the meeting. But without realizing. The chances would however multiply at the end of the first half. On this new effort from the forwards who dropped the ball on the line (36th). Or on this breakthrough of a Thomas Jolmès on fire who offered himself a chistera but Yann Lesgourgues dropped the ball when he was going to spin on the test. Until the siren, Union tried unsuccessfully to bend the Racing defense but had to settle for the thinnest of advances at the break.

Racing wear and tear

In the second period, the intensity did not drop. The two teams went blow for blow. Like this action of the 51st minute. At the start, a breakthrough by Nathanaël Hulleu, the UBB who entered the opposing 22 meters and chained the playing times. But Racing and its iron defense managed to regain the ball. Vakatawa transmits to Juan Imhof and the Argentinian extends the ball at the foot which he will himself flatten 50 meters further. The Ile-de-France regain the advantage 13-10. The showdown continues. Two penalties from Matéo Garcia leave the Bordelais in the game (46th and 57th, 13-13). The end of the match is to the advantage of Racing, which is in the Union camp. It takes a precious scratch from Poirot, a touch stolen by the Bordeaux line-up or a forward from Luke Jones and a scrum won by Ben Tameifuna to allow the UBB to resist. 40 seconds from time, the referee whistled a high tackle from Dubié sur Chat. Ben Volovola, right side, passes the winning penalty (16-13, 80th). Like last season, Racing came to win at Chaban-Delmas, the first failure of the season at home for UBB, which nevertheless remained at the top of the championship.
