Like every evening, the 11pm news report takes a look at the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s the Eurozapping of Tuesday, September 24.

On the evening of Monday 23 September, firefighters were desperately searching for a grandmother and a 5-month-old baby in a holiday home in Tuscany, Italy. Nine regions have been hit by torrential rain. The damage is considerable, given that the European Union has just released €446 million for last year’s floods.

In Portugal, health services are on the streets. Doctors and nurses are taking to the streets for the fifth time in 18 months. They are denouncing the lack of resources in hospitals. They are demanding better working conditions and an increase in their salaries. A few months ago, a centre-right government replaced the socialists. However, its margins are narrow to treat hospitals because it is in a minority in Parliament.
