Two people were indicted on Tuesday, July 11, in the investigation into the action in December against a Lafarge cement plant near Marseille. The spectacular operation was supported at the time by the environmental collective Les Uprisings of the Earth (SLT). At the end of a summons before the investigating judges, the two people were indicted for degradation and destruction in an organized gang, criminal association and they were placed under judicial control, reported the public prosecutor. of Aix-en-Provence, Jean-Luc Blachon.

Among them is a photojournalist who “does not recognize the facts with which he is charged and disputes the grounds for the indictment”, reacted his lawyer Colin Verguet. Same story from the side of an activist who says she is close to the ideas of the SLT: “Each element seems to me questionable and insufficient for an indictment”according to his lawyer Guillaume Arnaud.

An “accumulation of procedures” denounced

In June, about thirty people had been arrested in this case, in different departments, before emerging from police custody without prosecution. These are therefore the first indictments in this case. In a press release, the Provence Alpes-Côte d’Azur regional committee of the Human Rights League denounced a “accumulation of proceedings against environmental activists”which for him is similar to “a series of intimidation”.
